    Interview questions in Cyprus

The questions Cyprus employers actually ask, how to answer them, and what to ask back — for graduates and experienced candidates.

Always up to date — this guide reflects the platform as it is right now.

    1. The questions almost every Cyprus interview includes

Interviews in Cyprus tend to be shorter and more conversational than in larger markets, but the opening set rarely changes.

    • "Tell me about yourself." Ninety seconds: what you do, two proof points, why this role.
    • "Why do you want to work here?" Name something specific about the company, not the industry.
    • "Why are you leaving your current job?" Forward-looking and neutral. Never criticise the previous employer — Cyprus is a small market.
    • "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" A real weakness plus what you are doing about it.
    • "Where do you see yourself in three years?" Tie it to a path that exists inside their company.

    2. Questions specific to the Cyprus market

    • "What is your Greek and English level?" Be honest — it gets tested on day one.
    • "Do you need a work permit?" Answer plainly; employers plan around it.
    • "Are you based in Nicosia / Limassol, or willing to relocate or commute?" Daily cross-district commuting is common but matters to them.
    • "When can you start?" One month's notice is the Cyprus norm for professional roles.
    • Sector-specific: ACCA progress in audit, CySEC Advanced in forex, ETEK registration in engineering, GESY systems in healthcare.

    3. Behavioural questions and how to answer them

Use STAR: situation, task, action, result. Keep it under two minutes and finish on the result.

    • "Tell me about a difficult client or colleague."
    • "Describe a deadline you nearly missed and what you did."
    • "Give an example of a mistake you made at work."
    • "How do you prioritise when everything is urgent?"
    • "Tell me about a time you improved a process."
Good to know · Prepare four stories in advance. Almost any behavioural question can be answered from a well-chosen set of four.

    4. If you are a graduate with little experience

    • University projects, dissertations and society roles are valid answers — describe the work, not the grade.
    • Part-time hospitality and retail work proves reliability and customer handling; Cyprus employers respect it.
    • Say what you want to learn in the first year. Graduate employers hire for trajectory.
    • Practise out loud. Kyprium's free Interview Simulator runs role-specific mock questions and gives feedback.

    5. Talking about salary

    • Salaries in Cyprus are usually discussed as gross monthly, sometimes over 13 payments.
    • Give a range, not a single number, and anchor it to market data rather than your current pay.
    • Check the Kyprium salary guide for your category and city before the interview.
    • Ask what is included: 13th salary, provident fund, medical cover, GESY contributions, bonus structure.

    6. Questions you should ask them

    • "What does success look like in this role after six months?"
    • "Who would I work with day to day, and how big is the team?"
    • "Why is the role open?"
    • "How are decisions made here — and how quickly?"
    • "What are the next steps and the timeline?"

    7. Practical details on the day

    • Arrive ten minutes early. Traffic between districts is unpredictable at peak hours.
    • Business casual is the safe default; banking, audit and legal lean formal.
    • Bring a printed CV — smaller Cyprus employers often still ask for one.
    • Send a short thank-you email the same day. Very few candidates do, and it is remembered.
